Cowichan Valley Rally Update
By Malcom & Lucille Baster
On a cloudy but pleasant Sunday, seven Porsches set out from the parking lot of the Valleyview Mall. Armed with their route instructions, they headed into the wilds of Shawnigan Lake and the southern portion of the Cowichan Valley. Interestingly, our departure coincided with that of a large group of lady motorcyclists out on a charity ride. We, the organizers, meanwhile motored serenely to the Rally’s end-point at the Cowichan Golf and Country Club to relax over coffee and await their return. And return they did. Even appearing quite cheerful after their ordeal! We marked the rally sheets, then enjoyed lunch from the menu specially prepared for us. Our President Brad Blaney and his navigator took first place, winning jars of Lucille’s homemade pickles and marmalade; and Klaus Kreye and his navigator Gabriele finished second, winning Porsche card games kindly donated by Brad. Second place was decided by tie-breaking questions, as Steve Titus and his navigator Laura Ferreira finished the rally with the same score as Klaus and Gabriele. We hope everyone enjoyed the event, and have no desire to use a khopesh on us. Any of our competitors will happily tell you what a khopesh is!
