Porsche Helping Pets 2017
Up Island Director, Wendy Woodley organized the 2nd Porsches Helping Pets on Sat. Aug. 12 to raise cash donations & towels/linens for the SPCA. We had 33 members from Victoria, Duncan, Nanaimo, Gabriola Island, Qualicum Beach, Comox Valley and Campbell River, including 2 very new members, and their spouses. Plus, 2 Porsche owners, who are thinking about joining us. The day started with our usual 2nd Saturday of the month Cars & Coffee, followed by a drive to Point Holmes for pictures, 40 Knots Estate Winery for wine tasting, then lunch & auction in the Atrium Room, Crown Isle Resort.
I am thrilled to report we raised $1,615.00, from donations directly to the SPCA boxes, and from bids received on the 20 auctions items. I gathered these from Black Rock 2017, Crown Isle Resort, Get West Adventure Cruises, Mount Washington Alpine Resort, 40 Knots Estate Winery, Porsche Canada, Ltd., Porsche Centre, Victoria, RIBA Detailing Perfection, Terrace Beach Resort, VIR and 2 VIR members. The Executive supported my application to PCA for their Charity/Public Service Subsidy of $450.00, so our GRAND TOTAL donation to the SPCA, will be $2,065.00.
Last year we raised $760., my goal this year was $911.00. With the attendance we had, and the generous donations from our sponsors listed above, we blew that right out of the water, THANK YOU.
Yesterday I dropped of 100 lbs. of towel/linen donations, that I received at the event, to the SPCA, they were amazed and thrilled. Today I picked up 23 bags of towels/linens, weighing 1,100 lbs. from Crown Isle Resort. I had called them at the beginning of this project. It turned out they were in the process of replacing their towels/linens, and were very happy to have me pick them up and take to the SPCA. A total of 1,200 lbs. of towels/linens have been donated to the SPCA.
One of our local radio stations, “The Eagle” dropped by the Cars & Coffee, and asked me for a quick interview. I had great support from the “Comox Valley Record”, and advertised this event in both their “7 Days or more” column and an article and picture in the Sports Section. That brought quite a few members of the public to visit with our members, enjoy looking at our shiny Porsches and donate $ and towels. “Rocky Mtn. Chocolate”, new to the C.I. Plaza visited us with some samples their delicious chocolate, just as we were leaving on our tour.
I thank Henning, Gerhard, Geordie, and Gary for taking pictures and sending them to me
