Tacoma LeMay Museum/Porsche 75
Ron Dempsey is planning a group drive and visit to Tacoma, WA, to see the recently unveiled ‘Porsche at 75 – Decades of Excellence’ exhibit at the LeMay Car Museum. The dates are planned for April 20-22, with departure and return on the Coho Ferry to Port Angeles. In addition to the architectural wonder of the museum itself, there will be lots to see from Stuttgart and elsewhere. Departure on the morning of Thursday, April 20 via Port Angeles:
Please book the 10:30am on Thursday, April 20 Blackball ferry from Victoria to Port Angeles: Coho RegisterWe’ll meet for near Sequim after we clear customs and immigration in Port Angeles, location TBD.
At lunch we will provide a route guide to take us on some fun roads through the Olympic Peninsula to The Murano Hotel in Tacoma. Unfortunately, it is now sold out, so you might want to consider booking the Marriott Downtown or Marriott Courtyard Hotels in Tacoma for the night of April 20.
Additional Details: We will checkout out of our hotel and meet at the nearby LeMay Car Museum (aka ‘America’s Car Museum’) at 9:45am and will be provided special parking in the front of the building for a special photo opportunity.
After that, we will have a guided tour of the museum courtesy of Jay Gillotti, Historian for Pacific Northwest Region of the PCA. 2.5 hours is being set aside to tour the museum before we have lunch at a nearby waterfront restaurant. At this time, the event will technically end and you will be free to carry on as you wish.
You may want to take in the Tacoma Museum of Glass (museumofglass.org), visit Seattle or other parts of Washington State. Note that the Coho Ferry’s last scheduled sailing to Victoria via Port Angeles departs at 2pm, so returning to Vancouver Island would mean booking the Coho Ferry for the following day (Saturday, April 22) or carrying on up the I-5 through Seattle and crossing the border at Blaine. Given that this will put you in rush hour traffic through Seattle on a Friday afternoon, you might want to reconsider unless you are partially masochistic. I have booked a reservation for the Coho for the 22nd.
